Richard completed his Law Society Finals at Northumbria University before returning to Teesside to conduct his articles with Freers in 1993. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1995 and worked as a Criminal Advocate and Duty Solicitor dealing with many high profile cases. Richard became a Partner at Freers in 1999 and a Director at Freers Askew Bunting in 2016, where he now heads our Property & Private Client Departments.

Richard specialises in complex commercial and domestic property matters. He is regularly instructed by building and construction companies and professional landlords in a wide variety of property and business transactions. He has a broad knowledge of Land Law and has experience of conducting cases before the Lands Tribunal and Judicial Review proceedings in the Administrative Court.

He is the firm's compliance officer for Finance and Administration and the Senior Responsible Officer for the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme. He is a member of the Law Society's Management, Property and Private Client Sections.
